The FIUTS Intercultural Leadership Institute is an 8-week leadership experience in Seattle, Washington for emerging leaders attending high schools in the big Seattle area and college students from diverse backgrounds. University students will participate in the program and earn a certificate along with the high school students, as well as serving as mentors to the high schoolers. As program participants, young people from diverse backgrounds will explore leadership topics from many perspectives, gain important knowledge and skills to help them grow their leadership skills, make new friends, and have a great time.
Objectives:
- Civic Engagement & Leadership – Encourage active participation in community service and develop practical leadership skills. (Leadership sessions, community asset mapping)
- Diplomacy & International Relations – Understand global issues and diplomatic practices through diplomacy simulations, interviews, and guest speakers.
- Intercultural Competence – Learn to communicate effectively across cultures through workshops and dialogues.
- Hands-On Experience – Apply learning by organizing activities and acting as student ambassadors for international visitors. (Plan and coordinate an excursion for others, serve as facilitators, FIUTS student ambassadors).
Upon completion of the FIUTS Intercultural Leadership Institute participants will have gained a greater understanding of themselves as leaders and their capacity to grow in their leadership roles and will get the certificate of completion. They will get a unique understanding of culture as an important component of identity and will be part of a network of active young people. Participating in the FIUTS Intercultural Leadership program is an important step in the leadership journey, bulding your resume and expanding your network, as well as an opportunity to earn service hours.
Program Dates: 8 weeks on Tuesdays from 4:00 to 6:00 pm starting on Tuesday, October 29
Program Cost:University students can attend the institute for free as long as they fulfill mentorship requirements.
Space is limited: Cohort of 12 high school students and 8 college students
